Beginner Students
I make it my goal that each beginner (regardless of age) feels comfortable and confident at the instrument right away. This is accomplished through creating a technical backbone for their studies, as well as learning superior and progressive repertoire to enhance their musicianship.
What is Piano Safari?
Piano Safari was founded by Dr. Julie Knerr-Hague and Mrs. Katherine Fisher. Its early focus on technique and developing the ear makes it a perfect method for any beginner. Whether dealing with the struggles of meeting in-person or virtual lessons, my students have found success and early musicianship skills in Piano Safari in both instances. I truly believe it to be the best introductory method to mold competent and astute musicians. To learn more, check out their website.
Intermediate Students
Students who are beginning to master theoretical and musicianship concepts are able to play full and enticing works by some of the world's most famous composers. I encourage my students to strive for their own personal goals at the instrument, while simultaneously providing them with engaging repertoire to satiate their appetite for extravagant performances.
What is RCM?
The Royal Conservatory of Music program supplies student and educators alike with superior repertoire in a linear fashion. I have recently utilized pieces from their 2022 Piano Syllabus, and have seen instant growth in many of my students’ musicianship and technique. To learn more, read about their program overview here.
Advanced Students
As students progress even further in their studies, I simply wish to help them further their individual sound and accomplishments. By increasing their comprehension of each style and continuing to put their musical toolbox to the test, advanced students can find success as lifelong musicians.
A Variety of Repertoire
As advanced students move past the repertoire suggested by the RCM program, they possess the ability to choose their musical direction more freely. Despite this, I implore advanced students to learn and comprehend stylistic goals and tendencies from a palette of musical eras. These tools and specifications help build a well-rounded musician.
Adult Students
Regardless of age and training, students can learn both musical and practical skills from piano lessons.
Beginning Adults
Piano Safari (founded in Athens, Ohio) has a comprehensive method for both beginning and returning older students that puts technique and reading at the forefront.
Continuing Adults
I am always excited for adult students to pick up where they have left off, whether they have previously studied piano, or another instrument entirely. I pride myself in helping students find where their musical aptitude lies quickly while simultaneously providing additional assistance with any discrepancies or holes they may have from previous instruction.
